The Processes
PLASMA
An arc between a tungsten electrode and a copper nozzle excites the feed
gas into a plasma state creating temperatures up to 20,000 °C.
A powder is fed into the flame
where it is melted and propelled at sonic or higher velocities to the
substrate.
TYPICAL COATINGS
Chrome Oxide Aluminium Oxide
PROPERTIES
Extremely hard and dense coatings with very low porosity up to a maximum thickness of 0.5 mm
HVOF KEROSENE
High Velocity Oxygen Fuel using Kerosene produces velocities up to 2500 m/s.
A powder is fed into the flame where it is melted and propelled at such
speeds to the substrate.
TYPICAL COATINGS
Chromium Carbide - Tungsten Carbide Titanium Carbide
PROPERTIES
Extremely hard and dense coatings with almost nil porosity up to a
maximum thickness of 100 200 microns. In conjunction with special
machining and grinding technologies this assures a high quality smooth
surface finish.

FLAME and COMBUSTION WIRE SPRAYING
More traditional and cheaper where materials with lower melting points
are fed to the flame.
TYPICAL COATINGS
Dense Nickel or Cobalt Alloys
Molybdenum Chrome Nickel Steels Zinc
PROPERTIES
Low cost process for repairing and machining typically stainless steel
parts
